Free Chinese class for Irish Teachers 2018
Free Chinese class for Irish Teachers 2018
On Monday 4th December the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, T.D. launched the government’s Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education 2017-2026. He has announced that Chinese will be introduced as a Leaving Certificate subject in 2020, and will officially entre Leaving Certificate Exam 2022 as an important action of the Implementation Plan 2017-2022.
This will start a new era and drastically change the landscape of Chinese teaching in Ireland. Following our successful development of the Teaching Pack on Chinese Culture and Language for Transition Year in 2012, the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland and the Irish Institute for Chinese Studies at UCD have started offering the Professional Diploma and Masters in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture for school teachers since 2014. We are currently working on composing a Teaching Pack on Chinese Language and Culture for the Short Course in Chinese, which will be an online interactive teaching and learning platform facilitating the school based learning and assessment programme in Chinese for Junior Circle. All these efforts are laying the path for Leaving Cert Chinese in the near future.
Also, it is our pleasure to inform you that the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (CII) will run another round of free Chinese language class at the beginner level to Irish school teachers which will start from early January 2018. Please find detailed information below for the class and also forward the information to those school teachers who might be interested in the course.
This course is designed for:
· Teachers who may be interested in the Professional Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture (HSK 2 required) run by the Irish Institute for Chinese Studies at UCD and supported by CII (for more details please visit our website at <http://www.ucd.ie/china/study/graduateprogramme/pdinteachingchineselanguageandculture/> http://www.ucd.ie/china/study/graduateprogramme/pdinteachingchineselanguageandculture/), but have no previous learning experience of Chinese.
· Teachers who are interested in tasting the language but have no previous learning experience of Chinese.
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:
· Handle a variety of communicative topics, such as self-introduction, family, hobby, weather, food, shopping, date & time, numbers, daily routine, etc.;
· Start building up language capacity to teach simple and basic Chinese words or phrases to pupils;
· Lay a solid foundation for further study of Chinese language.
