‘Leading English Language Support in Post-Primary Schools’ National Seminar Autumn 2023

This full day seminar (09:30 - 15:30) will seek to provide language support to teachers of English as an Additional Language (EAL), EAL co-ordinators, and Additional Educational Needs (AEN) co-ordinators. There will be an opportunity to:

  • develop understanding of language support and the role of the language support teacher at post-primary level
  • explore the importance of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages and assessing EAL learners using materials linked to the CEFR
  • utilise the CEFR benchmarks as targets and link them to the EAL learner's curriculum
  • discuss and share examples of good practice in linking language support to the curriculum.

Registration for specific Cluster Meeting 1 dates and times for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) will be available week beginning 16th September.

Cluster Meeting 1 events will commence week beginning September 30th in line with the Droichead Cluster Meeting Calendar 2024.2025.

Belong To Stand Up Awareness Week Training

Belong To are running therir annual Stand Up Awareness Week from 6th-10th November 2023. Belong To’s Stand Up Awareness Week is a time for post-primary schools, youth services, and Youthreach centres in Ireland to join us and take a stand against homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying. This week is an opportunity to take steps to make spaces safe and supportive for LGBTQ+ young people. 

Belong To offers training sessions during September to help people prepare for Stand Up Awareness Week 2023.
