Target Audience: This webinar is aimed at teachers in primary schools who wish to introduce debating to their class. It is most suitable for teachers of senior classes (5th & 6th) but can be adapted to suit middle classes also.
This webinar entitled "Debating in Primary School" is aimed at teachers in primary schools who wish to introduce debating to their class. It is most suitable for teachers of senior classes (5th & 6th) but can be adapted to suit middle classes also.
Participants will be introduced to:
- Debating and the Primary Language Curriculum
- Linkage and integration across curricular subjects
- Introducing public speaking to your class
- Setting up an informal class debate
- Organising a formal class/inter-class debate within your school
- Organising an inter-school debate
- Choosing a motion
- Roles and responsibilities
- Mentoring pupils to prepare a speech
- Assessing/adjudicating the debate
- Giving feedback to your pupils
Bio of Presenter: Eimear Cronolly

Eimear Cronolly has prepared many primary school pupils for public speaking and debating competitions, as well as adjudicating debates at second level and in the Concern Debates series on many occasions. She has been a primary school teacher for almost 20 years. She has worked across various classes and school settings, in mainstream and SET. She has mentored newly qualified teachers and delivered Cluster Meetings and CPD events in various education centres over a number of years.
