 An Introduction to Dyslexia - A Series of Webinars run by DSI Specialists

Target Audience : All mainstream and SET primary teachers who wish to have a greater understanding of dyslexia and how they can best support learners presenting with literacy difficulties/dyslexia.

Sharon and Caitríona will introduce the series of webinars provided by members of Dyslexia Specialists Ireland. In this webinar they will provide a broad overview of dyslexia. Topics discussed, and more, will be examined in closer detail in upcoming webinars.

Sharon and Caitriona will begin by examining what exactly dyslexia is. Knowledge is power and understanding the nature of this learning difference can empower educators and caregivers to support learning in the best way possible.

Topics examined include:
Neuroscience; neurodiversity; indicators of dyslexia; the potential social and emotional effects of dyslexia; along with practical strategies and appropriate interventions to support children with dyslexia. Many helpful resources will be recommended.

Bio of Presenters: Caitríona Soraghan & Sharon Ní Chasaide

Caitríona Soraghan is a primary school teacher from Donegal, based in a Gaelscoil in Co. Kildare. She is passionate about supporting children who are experiencing literacy difficulties by empowering them, their parents and their teachers with the confidence and the tools they need to succeed. She is also a graduate of the M. Ed in SpLD (Dyslexia) from Dublin City University and an active member of DSI (Dyslexia Specialists Ireland).

Sharon Ní Chasaide is a primary school teacher in a gaelscoil in Co. Monaghan. She has over 25 years experience in all primary classes and has been an SET for many years. She is an advocate for inclusive education, for effective preventative instruction, for early intervention and for highlighting and identifying specific learning difficulties when necessary. She too is a graduate of the M. Ed in SpLD (Dyslexia) from Dublin City University and is a director of DSI (Dyslexia Specialists Ireland)
