Childhood adversity is so common that adopting a trauma-informed lens is a basic requirement of any healthy school and society. An increasing number of schools are now recognising that educators need to understand and adequately respond to children who have been exposed to traumatic experiences to mitigate the risks of negative outcomes across the lifespan.

Overview of Course in Trauma-Informed Practice
This 6-Part Webinar Series is suitable for Primary and Post-primary Teachers, SNAs and Principals. It introduces learners to the knowledge, theories and strategies that underpin trauma-informed practice in schools. It will discuss what it really means to become ‘trauma-informed’, in the context of attachment theory and relationships. It will explore how the human stress-response system operates, enabling learners to recognise how traumatic stress can show up in school environments.

The course offers a range of practical approaches and strategies framed by the ‘Respond with RESPECT’ model developed by Lucy Mannion of TINT Education. This model draws upon a range of theories and research within psychology and associated therapeutic disciplines (including occupational, speech and language and psychodynamic psychotherapies).

Qualifying as a Primary School Teacher in 2011, Lucy gained teaching experience in mainstream and special education settings in Ireland, Australia and the UK, before returning to university to study psychology in 2014. Graduating from UCD with a postgraduate degree in Psychology in 2016, Lucy proceeded to complete a Masters in Psychology from Kingston University London in 2017.

Lucy founded TINT Education in Spring 2022 upon returning to live in Ireland, with a mission to develop trauma-informed practice in Irish schools. She frequently develops and delivers training workshops and consults with school leadership teams on this topic, in both Ireland and the UK.
