Biodiversity in the School Grounds and Teaching Outdoors CPD

Practical outdoor workshops at Tralee Education Support Centre, 1 workshop per month from February to May (standalone – come to any or all workshops!). Discover the biodiversity in your school grounds, the connection between food growing and biodiversity, using the outdoors as a classroom, linking outdoor teaching to the curriculum and take away resource ideas, lesson plans and manageable practical biodiversity projects to try with your class.

Habitats in the School Grounds – The Vegetable Bed - 27th April 2023 - 4-5.30 pm

  • What is a habitat?
  • Different options for growing vegetables – lazy bed / no dig bed / raised bed
  • Who else lives in the vegetable bed?
  • Curriculum links, including Nature Literacy and Wellbeing
  • Perennial vegetables e.g. globe artichoke, asparagus, Babbington leek, wild garlic
  • Practical outdoor class projects in April – start a no dig bed and plant potatoes; plant an example of perennial vegetable
