22TRA594 Not another poster campaign! Impactful school climate action projects
Date: Thursday 20 October
Time: 7-8 pm
Venue: Online via Zoom
Climate action projects are becoming a fixture in Irish schools. These may be required by practicals or project work, be driven by students interests and passions, or be part of a Green Schools flag. A poster campaign or presentation can be a good way to ‘tick the boxes’ - but how can we go further? How can project work contribute to effective climate action that students genuinely learn from?
In this session we ask what makes impactful climate action, and seek to understand the learning that can occur when groups work together for change. We apply this to real-life climate action projects in Irish secondary schools and ask what made them powerful. Finally, we examine this year’s examination projects and suggest ways to power up your school-based action projects. This CPD session is ideal for teachers of subjects with a practical component (CSPE, Geography, Art, etc.) as well as those responsible for extra-curricular activities (Green Schools committees, clubs, etc.).
