22TRA353 Meaningful Movement Project - Competition In PE Webinar - (4th - 6th Class)

This in-class session will be approximately 30 minutes long and aims to get children from 4th – 6th classes pupils discussing a balanced approach to competition in physical education.
As part of The Meaningful Movement Project in association with the PE Department from Mary Immaculate College, Dr Richard Bowles and Dr Déirdre Ní Chróinín will have a conversation with Lilly-Ann O’Hora and Cillian Brennan to discuss their prior experiences of sport and PE, as well as lessons learned about being a good competitor from their sporting and professional lives. The discussion and student engagement will be focused on maintaining a balanced approach to competition in primary school physical education, challenging yourself to be your own personal best, as well as a practical exploration of how to be a good teammate/competitor.
This webinar will be introduced by Dr Richard Bowles and Dr Déirdre Ní Chróinín, Department of Arts Education & Physical Education Mary Immaculate College, who have a vast range of experience in primary school physical education provision and research, particularly meaningful participation in physical education, physical activity and sport. They will be joined by Lilly-Ann O’Hora, (international sprinter & hurdler, and current Women in Sport Manager, Athletics Ireland) and Cillian Brennan (Clare senior footballer, and primary school teacher currently undertaking a PhD exploring physical education provision in Irish primary schools).
