Deirdre Madden works for the Disability Support service in UCC and uses various technologies to support students who learn differently because of disabilities or learning difficulties. These technologies include speech-to-text, text-to-speech and visual teaching and learning tools. In this seminar we're going to adapt these tools for those students who learn differently because they've newly arrived in Irish schools and don't have English as their first language.

Deirdre will demonstrate the use of free tech, text to speech, she will offer tools and suggest adaptations for use and will invite participants to share any resources they are using.

Bio of Facilitator: Deirdre Madden, Assistive Technology Outreach Co-ordinator, Disability Support, Access UCC, University College Cork

Deirdre Madden is a B.Sc. graduate of UCC and has worked in the disability and education field for over 15 years. She joined the Disability Support Service in March 2012 to take up the new role of Assistive Technology Outreach Co-ordinator. Her role is to enhance access and transition to higher level education for students with disabilities through promoting awareness and use of assistive technology in second level education. She also works on the SOAR PATH Enabling Transitions Project, a partnership with schools which aims to enable a smoother transition to higher education using assistive technologies and develop a holistic transition program for targeted students with disabilities.
