This webinar will look at a range of resources and strategies that can be used to support children’s mathematical thinking and understanding. It will highlight a range of physical manipulatives, digital resources, and representations that can be used to support children’s mathematical understanding within the strand of Number.
Presenter: Rachel Brennan
Rachel has been a primary school teacher for 10 years. She worked for 5 years as a middle leader across a federation of schools in London and now works in a co-educational school in South Dublin. She has a special interest in Maths, Science and IT. She completed her Master of Education degree in Teaching and Learning at Dublin City University and in 2021 presented her thesis work, “Resources, representations and reasoning – young children’s analytic approaches in solving number tasks” at the Conference on Research in Mathematics Education in Ireland (MEI 8). Rachel now works part-time within the School of STEM Education, Innovation & Global Studies in DCU. Rachel completed a Postgraduate Diploma in School Leadership in 2021 and has a keen interest leadership practices, particularly mentoring and coaching. Rachel looks forward to working with Clare Education Centre and meeting new teachers through her newly developed webinar.
