Polar Explorer Tom Crean was born in Annascaul County Kerry in 1877. Tom went on three expeditions to Antarctica under Scott and Shackleton and spent ten years of his life exploring the coldest, most hostile place on Earth. This three-part webinar series by Kerry County Museum explores his three scientific expeditions to the South Pole and Tom's life after he retired from the Navy in 1920. Kerry County Museum recently launched their revamped Tom Crean Polar Room showcasing the life and achievements of Kerry's famous explorer. Kerry County Museum's Education Officer Claudia Kohler will illustrate the webinars using images from the Museum's substantial Polar collection and she will also talk about the Museum's Tom Crean handling collection for schools.
