25TRA207 Facilitating Assistive Technology Use for Students with Literacy Difficulties: Insights from Irish Post-Primary Teachers
Date: Monday 10th March 2025
Time: 7 - 8 pm
Venue: Online via Zoom
The use of digital tools to support the reading and writing skills of students with literacy-impacting disabilities in schools is a relatively new and under-researched educational development.
MTU recently conducted a qualitative study to explore the experiences of post-primary teachers in Munster who facilitate the use of software and apps for supporting students with literacy challenges in reading and writing.
This is the first study of its kind in Ireland and its findings largely accord with international research although some issues are unique to the Irish context. Implications for teachers and SNAs, school managers and the Department of Education are discussed.
This webinar will introduce the research and its findings. A summary document is available and will be provided to participants
