Target Audience: Post Primary SPHE Junior Cycle Teachers
The is a 4-week webinar series designed for those interested in becoming more confident in teaching and facilitating the many different topics within the RSE strand of the 2023 Junior Cycle SPHE Specification which include consent, human sexuality, pornography and abusive relationships.
This webinar series is suitable for teachers who are new to teacher SPHE or are seasoned SPHE teachers but eager to upskill in Junior Cycle SPHE following the publication of the 2023 Specification.
The learning outcomes for this online CPD are as follows:
Webinar 1 - Thursday 5th September 2024 @ 7pm
- Familiarise ourselves with the learning outcomes of the Junior Cycle SPHE Specification.
- Consider the cross-cutting elements that support effective teaching and learning in SPHE.
- Develop strategies for creating and maintaining a safe learning environment for both teacher and students within the SPHE classroom.
Webinar 2 - Thursday 12th September 2024 @ 7pm
- Explore the concept of 'stage of development' and its significance in the context of SPHE education.
- Engage in discussions on effective approaches for navigating challenging situations and questions encountered in SPHE teaching.
Webinar 3 - Thursday 19th September 2024 @ 7pm
- Learn about different facilitation roles and discern their suitability for various SPHE classroom scenarios.
- Explore a variety of experiential teaching methods applicable to the Junior Cycle SPHE Specification.
Webinar 4 - Thursday 26th September 2024 @ 7pm
- Consider different creative methods of assessment and reflection in the SPHE classroom.
- Gain understanding of the SPHE ‘Classroom Based Assessment’ and its practical implementation.
Bio of Presenter: Denise Dalton
Denise Dalton dedicated over six years to her position as a PDST Health and Wellbeing Advisor, where she played a vital role in shaping and delivering CPD in various educational domains. Her expertise extended to Wellbeing in Education, Child Protection, as well as both Junior and Senior Cycle SPHE and RSE.
She played a key role in designing and implementing continuous professional development in both Junior and Senior Cycle SPHE, in area including Mental Health, Substance Use, Relationships and Sexuality and Personal Safety, supporting thousands of Post Primary teachers nationwide in her role as a PDST Advisor.
She has also co-authored the acclaimed "You've Got This!" series of Junior Cycle SPHE textbooks.
Recently, Denise founded her consultancy, "ElevateSPHE," offering ongoing support to teachers and school leaders in health and wellbeing.
Apart from her educational endeavours, Denise is a registered Nutritional Therapist, where she focuses on supporting young teens in improving their energy, mood, concentration, and memory through nutrition and lifestyle changes, enabling them to thrive physically, emotionally, and academically.
