23TRA487 Teaching the Poetry of T.S. Eliot
Date: Tuesday 28th November 2023
Time: 7 - 8 pm
Venue: Online via Zoom
T.S. Eliot remains one of the most seminal poets of the 20th Century. He does not appear on the list of prescribed poets frequently, and as such, he offers teachers a welcome change from the repetition of certain poets on the syllabus. While some of his poetry is quite challenging, it remains accessible and he provides a solid option for study at Senior Cycle.
In this webinar, Claire will cover:
- Five poems that will provide students with a strong basis to write a lengthy, well-developed essay on Eliot
- Guidance on how to reinforce the learning of direct quotation
- Advice on how to read the poems in class as well as methodologies that support the reinforcement of theme and style
- A breakdown of past exam questions on Eliot
- A full essay on the poetry of Eliot
