Michael will deliver a webinar on the topic of market failure (strand 3  of the specification) with a particular focus on monopoly power. 

He will go through examples of the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index and the four firm concentration ratio. The economic theory will be related to markets that have high concentration ratios such as the tech industry, with a particular focus on Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple.

Michael’s webinar is suitable for teachers of Economics, and in particular teachers who are teaching the new specification for the first time.

Michael Ruane is the author of the new LC Economics textbook, “Economics Now” that was recently published by Gill. He also previously wrote a revision book for the old LC Economics syllabus - Rapid Revision Economics (2007).

Michael has been giving revision seminars to LC Economics students and their teachers in various venues throughout the country since 2011.

More recently he has been delivering online classes to LC Economics students, PME students, NQTs and teachers who are new to teaching the new specification. He delivers these through his own website, www.economicsnow.org
