Workplace Training and Compliance, People moving and positive handling course is specifically designed to support staff in providing safe, dignified assistance to pupils with physical, medical, or additional needs.
The safe movement and assisting within the school environment is a critical component of inclusive education and staff wellbeing. This course is grounded in best practice principles, relevant health and safety legislation, and aligned with the expectations of the Department of Education regarding safeguarding, risk management, and inclusive provision. Schools have a duty of care to both children and staff, and appropriate moving and handling procedures significantly reduce the risk of injury, promote independence, and ensure children are supported in a respectful and safe manner.
Participants will also gain practical guidance on the safe use of commonly used school-based equipment, including:
- Standers to support weight-bearing and postural development
- Walkers and gait trainers to encourage safe mobility
- Profiling beds used for positioning and care needs
- Hoists and transfer aids where applicable
- Specialist seating and postural supports
