This webinar will work on fostering critical thinking skills in the Junior Cycle History curriculum. This session will explore the importance of critical thinking in enhancing students' analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and understanding of diverse perspectives. You'll learn practical strategies to integrate critical thinking into your teaching, helping students construct coherent arguments, analyze historical events, and engage with primary and secondary sources effectively. Discover how these skills not only deepen students' historical knowledge but also prepare them for the Junior Cycle History exam and equip them with skills they will use beyond the classroom.
Presenter: Niall Lenehan
Niall is a history and geography teacher in Dunshaughlin Community College Co. Meath. Niall holds a bachelor’s degree in history and geography along with a Professional master’s in education from Maynooth University. Niall is vastly experienced in the area of online learning, having designed and delivered Junior Cycle History and Geography courses for other digital learning platforms including Homeschool.ie and Exam Revision.
Niall is also a published author and expert Junior Cycle History teacher, having authored Revise Wise: Junior Cycle History. He is currently working on a Junior Cycle History textbook. Niall has a keen interest in implementing new learning strategies in the classroom and has delivered CPD training to teachers in the areas of retrieval practice and curriculum design and planning.
