Throughout this webinar series, participants will understand:

• The Not So View of Writing (Berninger and Winn, 2006) and how this piece of research guides and informs writing instruction,
• The importance of foundational writing skills (e.g., handwriting, spelling, etc.),
• How to teach sentence level, evidence-based writing approaches,
• How to teach foundational and sentence-level writing within a 10 minute daily framework that is easy to plan and implement,
• How to go beyond the sentence—the paragraph,
• What extended writing looks like for the youngest of writers to upper elementary aged students ,
• How to ensure writing success along the way using various checklists and scoring tools.

Bio of Presenter: Amy Siracusano

Amy Siracusano, MS Ed., founder and owner of Know Better Do Better Literacy, LLC., worked in public education for 25 years before becoming a national literacy consultant. Her career has included many positions: classroom teacher, Title I teacher, vice principal, and literacy specialist for the board of education. She has presented nationally on various literacy topics including assessment, dyslexia, reading, and writing. Amy is an adjunct professor for the Reading Science Advanced Certificate Program at Brooklyn College in New York City. It is her mission to support national efforts in making sure teachers are equipped with a deep knowledge of language systems and teaching approaches to ensure all students leave second grade with proficient reading and writing skills. Amy lives in Southern Maryland with her husband Joe and their two daughters: Lucia (18) and Isabella (16).
