Target Audience: This webinar is for those working with primary school children who would like an in-depth understanding of Phonological Awareness and the important role it plays in contributing to future reading success. It is particularly suitable for both mainstream primary teachers and special education teachers.
This webinar discusses phonological awareness in an in-depth manner and highlights the crucial role of phonological awareness as a predictor for reading success for children. It highlights the need for effective instruction and early intervention, to support those children who are at increased risk for reading difficulties/dyslexia. In linking theory to good practice, participants will be guided through useful tasks and approaches for building phonological and phonemic awareness skills. Participants will be advised on key strategies, interventions, and assessments that they can use in their own classrooms and special education settings. This webinar will also advise participants on useful resources to develop phonological awareness skills that teachers can use in their own settings every day.
Bio of Presenters: Emma Kenneally & Francesca Keary

Emma Kenneally is a primary school teacher from Co. Tipperary. She has a particular interest in developing language, literacy and reading fluency skills and recognises the need for direct and explicit instruction, particularly for children with literacy difficulties/dyslezia. Emma is graduate of the M. ED in SpLD (Dyslexia) from Dublin City University and is also a member of DSI (Dyslexia Specialists Ireland).

Francesca Keary is a primary school teacher from Galway who has completed the M.Ed. in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia). Throughout her career, she has worked as both a Mainstream Class Teacher and a Special Education Teacher in Dublin and Galway with extensive experience in the infant classroom. She is currently working as an EAL Teacher in Galway City and is a member of Dyslexia Specialists Ireland.
