23TRA603 Module 1, CVC Short Vowels and Blends

This module is the first of four, which comprise short, instructional videos delivered by Mary Moran, the creator of Dcode. Tralee Education Support Centre’s Moodle server will stream the videos. They provide training on the correct use of Dcode and they follow a systematic and explicit methodology which will make confident readers of struggling readers.

Module 1 mini lectures must be viewed in sequence, and ideally, after viewing the video, participants should reflect on the lessons learned, and rehearse the skills. This may take between 120-160 minutes at a single sitting, however if you prefer a more relaxed and considered viewing of the module it could take days, or weeks, to complete. The beauty of the delivery model is the 24/7 availability of the resources on the Moodle server for the duration of the six-month subscription, and the ability this gives participants to view, and review, videos at a time and pace of their choosing.

Module 1, CVC Short Vowels and Blends is aimed at teachers, SNAs, dyslexic tutors, parents and anyone who has undertaken the task of teaching literacy to students and young people. The instruction given is systematic and explicit, and the module adheres to the sequence of Dcode, so the starting point on this course is Dcode Book1, CVC Short Vowels, and Dcode Book2, Blends. Ideally participants should have the books, however, resources will be available for download which will allow for limited rehearsal of the skills.
