Most of us do not remember learning to read; reading and writing is automatic for us.  When teaching children how to read, we must go back to the basics of written language.  An understanding of the alphabetic principle is essential for anyone learning to read.  This is the relationship between phonemes (sounds) and the letters (graphemes) that represent them. 

This webinar will look at the 44 phonemes of the English language and their links with letters.  It is suitable for Junior Infants to 2^nd Class and SET teachers.

Deirdre O’ Toole is a Primary School Teachers from Co. Meath.  She is passionate about child-led play and early literacy.  Deirdre is currently studying Literacy Education in Mary Immaculate College.
