Tutor: Claire O’Loughlin , CORU registered Speech and Language Therapist, BSc., MIASLT, MISTI
I graduated in Speech and Language Therapy from the National University of Ireland, Galway, in 2010. I subsequently undertook a Postgraduate Certificate in the Management of Dysphagia at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, which I completed in 2011. I have conducted research in relation to the service user’s perspective, exploring caregivers’ experiences of an early intervention service, which has since been published in the Journal of Clinical Speech and Language Studies. I have presented this research at two national conferences to-date.
I have been providing Speech and Language Therapy services in Ennis since 2011. I currently own and manage a private practice which I established in Ennis in 2014. My current caseload involves working with children and adults of all ages and levels of ability with communication and/or feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties. I conduct assessment and treatment in a variety of settings, such as my clinical practice, preschools, primary and secondary schools, residential and day services. Since 2015, I have been working as a Speech & Language Therapy Consultant to a Special School based in Galway. I have also worked as a Guest Lecturer on Phonology for the MSc. in Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Limerick. In 2017, together with a CORU Registered Dietitian, I founded and managed The Feeding Clinic, an independent joint SLT-Dietitian service for children and adults with feeding, eating, drinking and/or swallowing disorders. As part of my practice, I also conduct training for caregivers and staff across a variety of settings, such as residential and day services. I am passionate about early intervention and helping people of all ages to realise and achieve their full potential with regard to their speech, language and communication.
