22TRA167 Primary 2 Workshop: Materials Science - MaterialsNOW! and NanoWoW! (3rd Class - 6th Class) (P)

Date: 07th March 2022

Time: 7.00p.m - 8.00p.m

Venue: Online Via Zoom

This workshop will explore two of AMBERs’ Materials Science resources for 3rd-6th class:
MaterialsNOW and NanoWOW. The MaterialsNOW resource focuses on the material plastic and is designed to support students’ exploration of the role of plastics in society. The workshop will involve investigations into the properties of plastic and bioplastics, and participants will experience how to create a bioplastic with their students using everyday household materials.
The NanoWOW! resource includes short educational videos hosted by AMBER scientists to introduce the properties of materials, the concepts of scale and surface area, exploration of graphene one of the first nanomaterials to be found (and one that is inside a pencil), discussion of where nanoscience could take us in the future, and how we are using nature to inspire new nanomaterials to solve common problems.
Both of these resources focus on integration of science lessons with literacy and numeracy,
developing children’s’ skills in working scientifically, while also meeting literacy and numeracy objectives.
