21TRA550 Online Workshop - Mental Health and Wellbeing for Children and Young People

Mental health and well-being has gained unprecedented and justified importance in today’s world. More and more, schools and families are realising the role of wellbeing in daily functioning. There is lots of talk about resilience, adversity and the need for early intervention in order to promote positive outcomes for developing minds, which includes physical well-being and immunity. This course aims to help parents, carers and teachers in recognising and supporting children and young people with mental health needs, such as anxiety and depression. Attendees will be better equipped to help struggling children with evidence-based strategies (both preventative and reactive) that could be used at home or at school.

Workshop 1: Mental health & wellbeing for children & young people –  Foundations of mental health

• The role of emotions, behaviours and thoughts on student mental health
• Exploring the language around mental health

Thursday 18th November

Workshop 2: Mental health & wellbeing for children & young people – Exploring anxiety and depression in children and young people

What you will learn:

• Common worries and fears for children & young people 
• Signs and symptoms to look out for
• Risk and protective factors for children & youth mental health
• See the Patterns of anxiety and depression

Workshop 3: Mental health & wellbeing for children & young people – Strategies to promote mental health and wellbeing in children and young people 

What you will learn:

• Pathways/tools for identifying mental health needs
• Universal, group and individual strategies to improve wellbeing across home and school
