19TRA171 Peer Observation Information Seminar

19TRA171 Peer Observation Information Seminar

Peer observation is about teachers observing each others practice and learning from one
another. It aims to support the sharing of best practice and can help teachers at any stage in
their career gain valuable insights about their teaching performance in a confidential,
trusting environment. It is an effective tool to enable teachers to access feedback on their
practice, build their individual capability and develop a shared understanding of effective
methodologies. This type of collegial collaboration has many benefits for each individual
teacher and for building whole-school capacity. Encouraging teachers to critically reflect on
their own practices, observe new teaching methodologies and make connections with
colleagues within and beyond their own discipline are just some of the advantages from
partaking in this type of activity.  Peer observation encourages and supports teachers as
they continue to improve their practice in ways that better promote student learning.
